To Excursion or Not to Excursion?

There are many amazing vistas to take in at Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor, ME.
At times, the waterlilies seemed like snowflakes that would soon fall. Acadia National Park

Cruises offer such a unique way introduce travelers to the rich array of landscapes and cultural facets we have right here in the United States. Undoubtedly, having booked a highly anticipated trip along a previously unexplored route, the question for the cruise passenger always comes down to this: "Should I book an excursion? Or just wing it?" The pitfall of excursions has in my experience, ensuring value of a sometimes pricey side venture.

Today, I have the great fortune to visit Bar Harbor, Maine for the first time, and I writing to advise that this quaint little town is one where visiting is definitely enhanced via shore excursion. Upon waking it is a beautiful autumn day, with the foliage ever changing. I am here with family, including a young daughter and an elderly father. We took the tender into Bar Harbor, not having arranged a shore excursion. And then, something unexpected happened. Just as we found ourselves enchanted with this quaint little city, we realized we weren't going to get far due to its hilly terrain which presents certain mobility challenges for young and elderly alike. Then, it started to rain. So here we are 1000 miles from home in a wonderful port... stranded... so to speak. Nothing to do. But wanting to do.

That's where Olli's Trolly Tours came in. We were greeted by a very friendly staff and had options to take a 1 hour tour, or a 2.5 hour tour. We were very interested in the longer tour as it includes Acadia National Park. Well worth it!!

If you are traveling to this wonderful place with people who have mobility issues, stop! Book a tour in advance. These tours sell out quickly and you will not regret getting an in depth peek at this fabulous geographic spectacle of heaven on earth, especially if you are taking a cruise during autumn, when nature is ripe in the fullness of this season. - Alexis BG 10/2017
